Indications/Uses
Part of an IV nutrition regimen to cover basal or moderately increased trace element requirements in parenteral nutrition.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1 amp (10 mL) daily. Patient w/ significantly increased trace element requirements 2 amp/day (20 mL).
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Pronounced cholestasis (serum bilirubin >140 micromol/L). Wilson's disease & hemochromatosis. Elevated serum conc of any trace element contained in Nutryelt. Childn.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity reactions. Risk of Fe overload. Regularly monitor serum ferritin & blood manganese levels. Use w/ caution in patients w/ reduced biliary excretion; renal impairment, hepatic impairment, or mild cholestasis. Patients undergoing medium to long-term parenteral nutrition. Clinical evaluation & periodic laboratory determinations may be necessary to monitor changes in fluid balance, electrolyte conc, & acid-base balance. DM patients on insulin medication. Give w/ caution in cases of manifest hyperthyroidism or sensitivity to iodine if other iodine-containing medicinal products are concomitantly administered. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Pain at application site; hypersensitivity reactions.
Drug Interactions
Risk of fainting or shock w/ Fe salts (oral route).
