Dorzolamide HCl
Indications/Uses
Treatment of elevated IOP in patient w/ ocular HTN, open-angle glaucoma, pseudoexfoliative glaucoma & other secondary open-angle glaucomas.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Monotherapy 1 drop tds. Adjunctive therapy w/ an ophth β-blocker 1 drop bd.
Special Precautions
Severe renal or hepatic impairment, closed-angle glaucoma, sulfonamide allergy. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Remove soft contact lens prior to administration & do not reinsert <15 min after use. When substituting for another ophth antiglaucoma agent w/ this product, discontinue the other agent for 1 day & start Trusopt on the next day. If >1 topical ophth drug is used, the drugs should be administered at least 10 min apart.
Adverse Reactions
Burning, stinging, conjunctivitis, eyelid inflammation, eye itching, eyelid irritations. Headache, bitter taste, nausea, itching, fatigue/asthenia. Blurred vision, tearing. Rarely, iridocyclitis & rash. Angioedema, bronchospasm, urticaria, pruritus, dizziness, paraesthesia, transient myopia (resolve upon discontinuation) & superficial punctate keratitis have also been reported.
Drug Interactions
High dose of salicylate therapy. Potential additive effect w/ oral carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.
