Captopril
Indications/Uses
HTN. Heart failure.
Dosage/Direction for Use
HTN Adult Initially 12.5-25 mg 2-3 times daily. May increase to 50 mg 2-3 times daily after 2 wk if BP is not lowered sufficiently. Max: 150 mg daily. Severe HTN Max: 450 mg daily. Heart failure 12.5-25 mg 3 times daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Special Precautions
Renal impairment, collagen vascular disease, immunosuppressant therapy (neutropenia), bilateral renal artery stenosis, aortic stenosis.
Adverse Reactions
Rash, pruritus, flushing, loss of taste perception, proteinuria & cough.
Drug Interactions
May increase serum K when used w/ K-sparing diuretics. Hypotensive effects enhanced by diuretics, other antihypertensives & diminished by indomethacin, salicylates & NSAIDs.
