Cefpirome sulfate
Indications/Uses
Lower resp tract, upper & lower urinary tract, skin & soft tissue, neutropenic infections; immunocompromised patients, septicemia & severe infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Complicated upper & lower UTI, skin & soft tissue infections 1 g 12 hrly, lower resp tract infections 1 or 2 g 12 hrly, bacteremia or septicemia, severe infections, infection in neutropenic patient 2 g 12 hrly, very severe infections of urinary tract, skin & soft tissue Doses may be increased to 2 g.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Sensitivity to penicillins. Monitor blood count in prolonged therapy (>10 days). Impaired kidney function. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis; slightly increased serum creatinine & urea, kidney failure; thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, hemolytic anemia; local reactions at inj site; convulsion (very rare), reversible encephalopathy; superinfections; headache, fever.
Drug Interactions
Aminoglycosides, probenecid, diuretics.
