Prednisolone
Indications/Uses
Condition of allergy, inflammation & other disease which require glucocorticoid therapy eg, rheumatic, collagen & skin disease.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-4 tab daily. Doses should be reduced gradually to lowest effective dose.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Peptic ulcer, active TB, osteoporosis, neurological, kidney & heart disorders. Systemic fungal infections & ocular herpes simplex.
Special Precautions
Avoid abrupt w/drawal in prolonged & long-term use. Patients w/ DM, hypothyroid, heart failure, infection disease, chronic kidney failure. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn during growth period. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Fluid & electrolyte disturbances, Na retention, K loss, hypokalemic alkalosis, HTN, CHF, muscle weakness, steroid myopathy, loss of muscle mass, osteoporosis, vertebral compression fracture, pathological fracture of long bones, peptic ulcer, pancreatitis, abdominal distention, ulcerative esophagitis, lack of wound healing, thinning of the skin, facial erythema, increased sweating, convulsion, increased intracranial pressure w/ papilledema (pseudotumor cerebri), vertigo, headache, irregular menstruation, delayed growth in childn, secondary adrenocorticosteroid insufficiency, reduced carbohydrate tolerance, posterior subcapsulary cataract, increased IOP, glaucoma, exophthalmos, negative nitrogen balance due to protein catabolism, anaphylactic reactions.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ aspirin is not recommended in patients w/ non-specific ulcerative colitis. May accelerate metabolism w/ rifampicin, phenytoin, phenobarb. May inactivate vaccines.

H02AB06 - prednisolone ; Belongs to the class of glucocorticoids. Used in systemic corticosteroid preparations.
