Nomegestrol acetate
Indications/Uses
In premenopausal women: Progesterone deficiency: Disorders of cycle duration (oligomenorrhoea, polymenorrhoea, spaniomenorrhoea, amenorrhoea); functional uterine bleedings (metrorrhagia, menorrhagia); functional signs & symptoms preceding/accompanying periods (essential dysmenorrhoea, premenstrual syndrome, cyclical mastodynia). In postmenopausal women: Artificial cycles in combination w/ an estrogen.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Premenopausal women 5 mg daily for 10 days/cycle (from the 15th to 24th day). Postmenopausal women Dependent on estrogen replacement therapy.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Active or history of MI, CV stroke, phlebitis, pulmonary embolism; serious liver function disturbances; undiagnosed genital bleeding. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Confirm absence of breast/uterine cancer before initiation of treatment. Discontinue if ocular disorders, arterial/venous thromboembolism, severe & unexplained headaches occur. CV disease, unstable HTN, DM or porphyria.
Adverse Reactions
Menstrual disorders, amenorrhoea, breakthrough bleeding. Exceptionally, allergic skin reaction & fever, visual disorders, venous thromboembolic occurrence; wt gain, insomnia, pilosis, GI disorders.
Drug Interactions
Anticonvulsants, barbiturates, griseofulvin, rifabutin, rifampicin.
