Indications/Uses
Tab: Herpes simplex virus infections on skin & mucous membranes, including initial & recurrent genital herpes, herpes zoster (shingles) & varicella (chicken pox). Herpes simplex infection suppression (prevention of recurrence) in immune-competent patients. Prophylaxis of herpes simplex infection in immune-compromised. Cream: Herpes simplex infection of the skin including initial & recurrent genital herpes & labial herpes.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Adult Herpes simplex treatment 200 mg 5 times a day every 4 hr for 5 days. Herpes simplex suppression in immune-competent patient 200 mg 4 times daily every 6 hr. Prophylaxis of herpes simplex in immune-compromised patient 200 mg 4 times daily every 6 hr. Herpes zoster 800 mg 5 times a day every 4 hr for 7 days. Patient w/ severe renal impairment (CrCl 10 mL/mn) 200 mg twice a day every 12 hr. Herpes zoster w/ severe renal impairment 800 mg twice a day every 12 hr. Herpes zoster w/ mild renal impairment (CrCl 10-25 mL/mn) 800 mg 3 times a day. Childn Treatment of herpes simplex & prophylaxis of herpes simplex in immune-compromised >2 yr Adult dose, <2 yr ½ of adult dose. Cream Apply 5 times daily every 4 hr w/o night dose.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
