Cefepime HCl
Indications/Uses
Lower resp tract, skin & skin structure, intra-abdominal infections. Severe or complicated gynaecological infections, septicaemia, empiric treatment of febrile neutropenia, complicated upper & lower UTI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Mild to moderate UTI 500 mg-1 g IV or IM 12 hrly. Other UTI 1 g 12 hrly. Serious infections 2 g IV 12 hrly. Life-threatening or very serious infections 2 g IV 8 hrly. Duration of treatment: 7-10 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin, penicillin or other β-lactam antibiotics.
Special Precautions
Pseudomembranous colitis, superinfections. Prolonged treatment may cause overgrowth of non-susceptible microorganisms. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <13 yr.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, rash, pruritus, fever, chest pain, tachycardia, cough, sore throat, dyspnea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, paresthesia, anxiety, confusion, asthenia, sweating, vaginitis, edema, urticaria, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme, toxic epidermal necrolysis, toxic nephropathy, colitis, seizures, aplastic or haemolytic anemia, haemorrhage, liver or renal dysfunction.
Drug Interactions
Aminoglycosides, ampicillin, metronidazole, vancomycin, aminophylline.
