Dosage/Direction for Use
Duodenal ulcer 20 mg once daily for 2-4 wk. Poorly responsive patients: 40 mg once daily for 4 wk. Prevention of relapse: 10-20 mg once daily. Gastric ulcer 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Poorly responsive patients: 40 mg once daily for 8 wk. Prevention of relapse: 20-40 mg once daily. NSAID-associated duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, gastroduodenal lesions 200 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Prevention: 20 mg once daily. Reflux oesophagitis 20 mg once daily for 4-8 wk. Severe cases: 40 mg once daily for 8 wk. Long-term management: 10-20 mg once daily. Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Initially 60 mg daily. Doses of 20-120 mg daily are usually adequate. Divided into 2 doses for doses >80 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take immediately before a meal.
Special Precautions
Exclude malignancy if gastric ulcer is suspected. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, headache & skin rash.
Drug Interactions
Prolongs elimination of diazepam, barbiturate, warfarin & phenytoin.
