Ascorbic acid
Indications/Uses
Vit C deficiencies in cases of oral treatment is contraindicated.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 100-250 mg 1-2 times daily for several days. Severe cases, 1,000-2,000 mg daily could be administered. Childn 100-300 mg daily in divided doses.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Hyperoxaluria.
Special Precautions
Diabetics; renal impairment; rapid IV inj; prolonged use, G6PD deficiency; renal dysfunction & renal stone history, hemachromatosis, thalasemia, polyerythema, leukemia, sideroblastic anemia. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Soreness at IM inj site. Rapid IV admin may cause temporary dizziness/unconciousness, headache, insomnia, hot flushes, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps; diarrhea in large doses.
Drug Interactions
Acetosal/aspirin, nicotine, alcohol, appetite-stimulating drugs, Fe, phenytoin, anticonvulsants, estrogen from OC, tetracycline, oral anticoagulant.
