Imipenem 500 mg, cilastatin Na 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Intra-abdominal, lower resp tract, gynecological, GUT, skin & soft tissue infections, septicemia, endocarditis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Treatment Usual dose 1-2 g daily in 3-4 divided dose. Max: 50 mg/kg/day or 4 g/day. Prophylaxis 1 g on induction of anesth w/ another 1 g 3 hr later. For high-risk surgery 2 additional 500 mg doses 8 & 16 hr after induction.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to imipenem & cilastatin
Special Precautions
History of GI disease, impaired kidney disease. May cause partial cross-allergic reactions w/ penicillin & cephalosporin. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Erythema, local pain, thrombophlebitis, rash, pruritus, urticaria, toxic epidermal necrolysis, fever, anaphylactic reactions, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, eosinophilia, leucopenia, neutropenia, agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, thrombocytosis, reduced Hb, hepatitis (rare). Direct positive result in Coombs' test. Oliguria/anuria, polyuria, acute kidney failure (rare), myoclonic activity, psychic disturbance, confusion, convulsion, taste disturbance.
Drug Interactions
Ganciclovir, probenecid, lactic soln.
