Moxifloxacin HCl
Indications/Uses
Bacterial infection in adult (>18 yr) ie, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, community acquired pneumonia, acute bacterial sinusitis, complicated skin & skin structure, other infections due to moxifloxacin-sensitive organisms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 tab 400 mg once daily. Duration therapy: Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis 5-10 days. Community-acquired pneumonia 10 days. Acute bacterial sinusitis 7 days. Complicated skin & skin structure infections 7-21 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity to quinolones or other components. History of tendon disease associated w/ quinolones. Cardiac electrophysiology disturbances, severe liver dysfunction, severe kidney dysfunction or receiving hemodialysis. Avoid concomitant use w/ antiarrhythmia class IA & III. Pregnancy & lactation. Child & adolescent during growth period.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ CNS disorders or a history of seizures, visual disturbances. G6PD deficiencies. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headache, dizziness, prolonged QT interval.
Drug Interactions
Antacids, sucralfate, bivalent or trivalent-containing drugs, glibenclamide, neuroleptic, macrolide, antifungal azoles, antihistamine, activated charcoal.
