Alprazolam
Indications/Uses
Anxiety; mixed anxiety including anxiety-related depression; panic disorders w/ or w/o agoraphobia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Anxiety Initially 0.75-1.5 mg daily in divided doses. Panic disorder 0.5-1 mg at bed time, or 0.5 mg 3 times daily. Elderly 0.5-0.75 mg daily in divided doses, may be increased gradually.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Side effects eg sleepiness/drowsiness may be reduced if taken immediately after meals.
Adverse Reactions
Sedation, drowsiness, ataxia, memory disturbances, dysarthria, dizziness, headache, constipation, dry mouth, fatigue, irritability, reduced appetite, mental confusion, disorientation, reduced libido, insomnia, body imbalance, abnormal coordination, attention disorders, hypersomnia, lethargy, tremor, blurred vision, nausea, reduced wt, wt gain, amnesia, muscle weakness.
