Azithromycin dihydrate
Indications/Uses
Bronchitis, community-acquired pneumonia, sinusitis, pharyngitis, otitis media, skin & soft tissue infections & uncomplicated genital infections due to Chlamydia trachomatis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >45 kg including elderly patient 500 mg once daily for 3 days. Uncomplicated genital infections due to Chlamydia trachomatis 1,000 mg single dose.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to macrolides.
Special Precautions
Severe renal impairment (GFR <10 mL/min). Prolonged cardiac repolarisation & QT interval.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort.
Drug Interactions
Antacids, carbamazepine, cimetidine, cyclosporin, digoxin, ergot derivatives, methylprednisolone, theophylline, zidovudine, didanosine, rifabutin, coumarin-type oral anticoagulants, terfenadine.
