Highly purified menotrophin
Anovulation including polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) in women who have been unresponsive to treatment w/ clomiphene citrate. Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation to induce development of multiple follicles for assisted reproductive technologies (ART) eg, in vitro fertilisation/embryo transfer (IVF/ET), gamete intra-fallopian transfer (GIFT) & intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
Dosage/Direction for Use
SC/IM Women w/ anovulation including PCOD Start w/in initial 7 days of menstrual cycle. Initially 75-150 IU daily, maintained for at least 7 days. May be increased in 37.5-75 IU increments up to max: 225 IU daily. Single inj of 5,000-10,000 IU hCG is given 1 day after the last inj to induce ovulation. Women undergoing controlled ovarian hyperstimulation for multiple follicular development for ART Start approx 2 wk after initiation of agonist treatment or on day 2 or 3 of menstrual cycle: Initially 150-225 IU daily for at least 1st 5 days, may be adjusted in not >150 IU increments up to max: 450 IU daily. Max duration: 20 days. Single inj of up to 10,000 IU hCG should be administered to induce follicular maturation in preparation for oocyte retrieval.
Hypersensitivity. Pituitary or hypothalamic tumors; ovarian, uterine or mammary carcinoma; gynecological hemorrhage of unknown etiology; ovarian cysts or enlarged ovaries not due to PCOD; primary ovarian failure; sexual organ malformations; uterine fibroid tumors incompatible w/ pregnancy. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Assess infertility & evaluate for hypothyroidism, adrenocortical deficiency, hyperprolactinemia, pituitary or hypothalamic tumors prior to treatment. Discontinue use if severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) occurs. Withhold hCG & refrain from coitus or use barrier methods for at least 4 days if ovarian hyperstimulation occurs. Risk of OHSS, multiple pregnancies, pregnancy wastage, ectopic pregnancy, reproductive system neoplasms, congenital malformation & thromboembolic events. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain & distension, nausea; inj site reactions; headache; OHSS; pelvic pain.

Enhanced follicular response w/ clomiphene citrate.
