Doxorubicin HCl
Indications/Uses
Malignant lymphomas (Hodgkin's & non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, lymphoma sarcoma); gastric, hepatic, colorectal & pancreatic carcinoma; acute myeloplastic leukemia; soft tissue & osteogenic sarcomas; breast, ovarian, lung, bronchogenic & bladder carcinoma; Wilms' carcinoma.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Monotherapy: 60-75 mg/m2 every 3 wk. In combination w/ other antitumor agents w/ overlapping toxicity: 30-40 mg/m2 every 3 wk.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Cardiac failure or preexisting heart disease. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Hepatic & renal failure. Monitor patients w/ fetal infections, bone marrow depression, chickenpox. Infection & bleeding tendency. Do not administer via IM or SC. Avoid intraperitoneal. Elderly. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Supraventricular tachycardia, arrythmia, abdominal pain, ECG changes; anemia, bleeding, leukocytopenia, thrombocytopenia; fever, chills, urticaria, anaphylaxis; hepatic impairment; proteinuria; acute nausea, vomiting, mucositis, anorexia, diarrhea; reversible complete alopecia; fatigue, headache; cystic stimulation symptoms (oliguria, urodynia, urocystitis, hematuria); pneumothorax; blennophthalmia, epiphora, amenorrhea, aspermia.
Drug Interactions
May potentiate toxicity of other anticancer agents. Exacerbates cyclophosphamide-induced hemorrhagic cystitis & enhances hepatotoxicity of 6-mercaptopurine.
