Calcium helps prevent and treat osteoporosis, calcium malabsorption and deficiency conditions.
Inadequate calcium intake can lead to osteoporosis, a disease where bones become fragile and brittle. Stooped posture and height reduction can result.
Taken daily, it supplements the calcium obtained from the diet.
One to two soft gel capsules daily or as directed by physician.
Calcium Carbonate is absorbed best when taken with food.
Calcium Carbonate (Calci-Aid) comes in a soft gel capsule for easy swallowing. Sip a little water before taking in the soft gel capsule.
There is no evidence that this product can lead to an overdose when used as recommended.
If an overdose is suspected, contact a physician immediately.
There is no specific antidote however patients should still consult their physician.
If symptoms of overdosage occur, the product should be stopped and a health care professional consulted.
Hypercalcemia (e.g. associated with sarcoidosis, hyperparathyroidism, hypervitaminosis D, certain cancers).
When Calcium Carbonate is used in large doses, serum calcium concentration and kidney function should be determined weekly or at the first sign of hypercalcemia.
Gastrointestinal: Constipation, Flatulence.
Cardiovascular: Myocardial infarction.
Renal: Urolithiasis.
Calcium salts may enhance the cardiac effects of digitalis glycosides.
It may interfere with the absorption of tetracycline given concomitantly.
Calcium absorption is lower with a low protein diet than with a high protein diet.
Dietary phytates (nuts, legumes, grains and edible seeds) and oxalates (tea, green leafy vegetables) depress calcium absorption.
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
