Gliclazide
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially, 40 mg daily, may increase up to 320 mg daily. Doses >160 mg should be given in divided doses.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Diabetes complicated w/ acidosis, ketosis or coma. Juvenile onset diabetes & unstable or brittle diabetes. Severe renal & liver disease.
Special Precautions
Hepatic & renal impairment. Hypoglycemia may occur. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, headache, rashes & GI disturbances.
Drug Interactions
Potentiation w/ phenylbutazone, β-adrenoreceptor blocking agents, MAOIs, ketoconazole & miconazole. Diminution of hypoglycemic action w/ thiazide diuretics, corticosteroids & estrogens.
