Indications and Dosage

Topical/Cutaneous
Hyperpigmentated skin conditions

Adult: As 2-4% preparation: Apply and rub in a thin layer to affected area bid, in the morning and evening. Discontinue if there is no improvement after 2 mth.

Incompatibility

Incompatible w/ alkalis, ferric salts and oxidizing agents.

Contraindications

Sunburn or depilatory usage.

Special Precautions

Pregnancy and lactation.

Adverse Reactions

Transient erythema, mild burning sensations, irritation, stinging, allergic dermatitis; dryness and fissuring of paranasal and infraorbital areas; ochronosis and colloid milium (chronic use).

Action

Description: Hydroquinone is a topical depigmentating agent that produces a reversible depigmentation of the skin by inhibiting enzymatic oxidation of tyrosine to 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine and suppressing melanocyte metabolic processes.
