Levocetirizine diHCl
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of allergic conditions including rhinitis & chronic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
5 mg once daily. Childn ≥12 yr 5 mg once daily, 6-11 yr 2.5 mg once daily. Renal impairment CrCl 50-79 mL/min 2.5 mg once daily, 30-49 mL/min 2.5 mg every other day, 10-29 mL/min 2.5 mg once every 3 or 4 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Drowsiness. Patients w/ epilepsy. Avoid inappropriate use for postural giddiness. May affect the performance of skilled tasks. Renal & hepatic impairment. Avoid in neonates & childn <6 yr. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or epigastric pain. Palpitations & arrhythmia. Rashes & hypersensitivity reactions (eg, bronchospasm, angioedema, anaphylaxis) & cross-sensitivity to related drugs. Blood disorders eg, agranulocytosis, leukopenia, hemolytic anemia & thrombocytopenia. Convulsions, sweating, myalgia, paresthesias, extrapyramidal effects, tremor, sleep disturbances, depression, confusion, tinnitus, hypotension & hair loss.
Drug Interactions
May potentiate effects of alcohol in excessive doses. May suppress cutaneous histamine response to allergen extr for skin testing.
