Losartan K 50 mg, hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg
Management of HTN inadequately controlled by individual components, losartan or hydrochlorothiazide alone.
Dosage/Direction for Use
May be taken with or without food.
Hypersensitivity to losartan, hydrochlorothiazide or other sulfonamide-derivatives. Anuria.
Special Precautions
Use w/ caution on renal function impairment. Do not use on hepatic function impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Losartan: Palpitations, orthostatic effects, angina pectoris, arrhythmias (eg, atrial fibrillation, sinus bradycardia, tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation), CVA, hypotension, MI, 2nd-degree AV block; dizziness, syncope, anxiety, ataxia, confusion, depression, dream abnormality, hyperesthesia, insomnia, decreased libido, memory impairment, migraine, nervousness, panic disorder, paresthesia, peripheral neuropathy, sleep disorder, somnolence, tremor, vertigo; rash, alopecia, dermatitis, dry skin, ecchymosis, erythema, flushing, photosensitivity, pruritus, sweating, urticaria; sinusitis, cough, nasal congestion, angioedema, pharyngeal discomfort, rhinitis, blurred vision, burning/stinging in the eyes, conjunctivitis, decreased visual acuity, taste perversion, tinnitus; abdominal pain, anorexia, constipation, dental pain, dry mouth, dyspepsia, flatulence, gastritis, vomiting; impotence, nocturia, urinary frequency, UTI; anemia; edema, gout; upper resp tract infection, dyspnea, epistaxis, resp congestion. Hydrochlorothiazide: Orthostatic hypotension; restlessness; photosensitivity, urticaria, necrotizing angiitis (vasculitis & cutaneous vasculitis), erythema multiforme (eg, SJS), exfoliative dermatitis (eg, TEN), purpura; transient blurred vision, xanthopsia; pancreatitis, sialedenitis, cramping, gastric irritation; glucosuria, renal failure/dysfunction, interstitial nephritis; aplastic/hemolytic anemia, agranulocytosis, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia; intrahepatic cholestatic jaundice; hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia; resp distress (eg, pneumonitis, pulmonary edema).
Drug Interactions
Losartan: May elevate plasma levels w/ fluconazole. May elevate plasma levels of lithium. May reduce plasma levels w/ rifamycins (eg, rifampin). May increase serum K w/ K-sparing diuretics (eg, spironolactone), K supplements & K-containing salt substitutes. Hydrochlorothiazide: Increased risk of orthostatic hypotension w/ alcohol, barbiturates & narcotics. Antidiabetics. May potentiate effects of other antihypertensives. May impair absorption w/ cholestyramine, colestipol resins. Increased risk of electrolyte depletion (eg, hypokalemia) w/ ACTH & corticosteroids. Decreased response to pressor amines (eg, norepinephrine). May increase responsiveness to muscle relaxant w/ nondepolarizing skeletal muscle relaxants (eg, tubocurarine). Increased plasma levels of lithium. May reduce antihypertensive, diuretic & natriuretic effects w/ NSAIDs.
