Concise Prescribing Info
Per 50 mg/12.5 mg tab Losartan K 50 mg, hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg. Per 100 mg/25 mg tab Losartan K 100 mg, hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initial & maintenance: One 50 mg/12.5 mg tab once daily. Patient who do not respond adequately Adjust to a max dose of one 100 mg/25 mg tab daily or two 50 mg/12.5 mg tab daily.
May be taken with or without food.
Hypersensitivity to losartan K, hydrochlorothiazide or other sulfonamide-derived drugs. Anuria. Pregnancy (2nd & 3rd trimesters).
Special Precautions
Do not initiate treatment in patients who are intravascularly vol-depleted (eg, those treated w/ high-dose diuretics); hepatic & severe renal impairment. May increase BUN & serum creatinine in patients w/ bilateral renal artery stenosis or stenosis of the artery to a solitary kidney. Pregnancy (1st trimester) & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, edema/swelling, asthenia/fatigue, headache; palpitation; diarrhea, nausea; back pain; dizziness; dry cough, sinusitis, bronchitis, pharyngitis, upper resp tract infection; rash.
Drug Interactions
Losartan K: Increased AUC w/ cimetidine. Reduced AUC w/ phenobarb. Decreased levels w/ rifampicin & fluconazole. Increased serum K w/ K-sparing diuretics (eg, spironolactone, triamterene, amiloride), K supplements or K-containing salt substitutes. Hydrochlorothiazide: Potentiation of orthostatic hypotension w/ alcohol, barbiturates or narcotics. Insulin & oral antidiabetic agents. Impaired absorption w/ cholestyramine & colestipol resins. Intensified electrolyte depletion particularly hypokalemia w/ corticosteroids, ACTH. Possible decreased response to pressor amines (eg, adrenaline). Potential increased responsiveness to nondepolarizing skeletal muscle relaxants (eg, tubocurarine). Reduced renal clearance & increased risk of lithium toxicity. Diuretic, natriuretic & antihypertensive effects may be reduced by NSAIDs.
