Indications/Uses
Reduces LDL-cholesterol, apolipoprotein B & triglycerides & to increase HDL-cholesterol in the treatment of hyperlipidaemias (type IIa or IIb hyperlipoproteinaemias), hypertriglyceridaemia (type IV) & dysbetalipoproteinaemia (type III).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 10-20 mg once daily & 40 mg daily, at intervals of 4 wk up to max 80 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Active liver disease; assess liver function prior to treatment & subsequently when clinically indicated; additional assessment after 3 mth & after dosage increase. Risk of myopathy in patients w/ renal impairment. Discontinue if creatine phosphokinase increases significantly or if myopathy is diagnosed.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances; headache, skin rashes, dizziness, blurred vision, insomnia & dysgeusia; anaphylaxis & angioedema.
Drug Interactions
Ciclosporin, itraconazole, ketoconazole, erythromycin, clarithromycin, telithromycin, HIV-PIs, nefazodone, danazol, amiodarone & verapamil; grapefruit juice.

C10AA05 - atorvastatin ; Belongs to the class of HMG CoA reductase inhibitors. Used in the treatment of hyperlipidemia.
