Tropicamide 0.5%, phenylephrine HCl 0.5%
Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Mydriasis Instill 1-2 drops once or 1 drop twice every 3-5 min. Cycloplegia 1 drop 2-3 times every 3-5 min. Apply into the conjunctival sac after eyelid retraction, while the patient is in a supine position. After application, the treated eye should be closed for 1-5 min, while the lacrimal sac is compressed appropriately.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ glaucoma (acute-angle glaucoma may occur).
Special Precautions
Hypertensive patients; arteriosclerosis; heart disease including coronary artery disease or heart failure; diabetes; hyperthyroidism. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Use in premature infants, childn & elderly. Do not use if discolored or contains precipitate.
Adverse Reactions
Shock & anaphylactoid reaction. Erythema, rash, dyspnea, decreased BP, eyelid edema. Blepharitis, eyelid dermatitis, itching, rash, urticaria; conjunctivitis, corneal epithelium disorder, rise IOP; thirst, nausea/vomiting; facial flushing, tachycardia, HTN, headache.
Drug Interactions
Rapid increase in BP w/ MAOIs, TCAs (maprotiline HCl, clomipramine HCl, amoxapine).
