Cefpodoxime proxetil
Indications/Uses
Treatment of susceptible infections including gonorrhea, otitis media, lower resp tract infections & UTI.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Resp tract infections & UTI 100-200 mg every 12 hr. Skin infections 200-400 mg every 12 hr. Uncomplicated gonorrhea 200 mg as single dose. Childn Resp tract infections 8-10 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses. Max: 200 mg daily. Otitis media 400 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cefpodoxime or other cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances especially diarrhea.
Drug Interactions
Antacids or histamine H2-receptor antagonists. Reduced renal excretion w/ probenecid.
