Indications/Uses
Acute & chronic treatment of OA & RA. Ankylosing spondylitis, acute gouty arthritis. Relief of chronic musculo-skeletal pain including chronic low back pain, acute pain associated w/ dental surgery. Primary dysmenorrhea. Post-op gynecological surgery pain.
Dosage/Direction for Use
OA 30 mg or 60 mg daily. Acute & chronic RA, ankylosing spondylitis 90 mg once daily. Acute gouty arthritis 120 mg once daily. Max duration for acute symptomatic period: 8 days. Relief of chronic musculo-skeletal pain, including chronic low back pain 60 mg once daily. Primary dysmenorrhea 120 mg once daily. Max duration of treatment: 8 days. Relief of acute pain associated w/ dental surgery 90 mg once daily. Max duration of treatment: 3 days. Post-op gynecological surgery pain 90 mg once daily. Max duration of treatment: 5 days.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Active peptic ulceration or GI bleeding. Severe hepatic dysfunction (Child-Pugh score >9). Estimated CrCl <30 mL/min. Patients who develop signs of asthma, acute rhinitis, nasal polyps angioneurotic oedema or urticaria following administration of aspirin or other NSAIDs. Inflammatory bowel disease; CHF (NYHA II-IV); inadequately controlled BP; ischemic heart disease, peripheral arterial disease &/or cerebrovascular disease (including patients who have recently undergone CABG surgery or angioplasty). Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <16 yr.
Special Precautions
Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity, pregnancy & lactation, CABG surgery patients, CV or cerebrovascular disease, uncontrolled HTN, MI or CHF (NYHA II-IV), history of ischemic heart disease or history of paralysis from cerebrovascular disease. Patients w/ risk factors for CV events eg, HTN, hyperlipidemia, DM, smoking, elderly. Liver & kidney disorders.
Adverse Reactions
Edema, HTN, palpitation; dizziness, fatigue, headache, bruising; abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, heartburn, nausea; increased ALT & AST; weakness; alveolar osteitis, flu-like syndrome.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ anticoagulants eg, warfarin may cause bleeding. GI bleeding may occur w/ NSAIDs eg, ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen. Digoxin. May increase plasma lithium levels.
