Indications/Uses
Sepsis & septic conditions, meningitis, prophylaxis & treatment of surgical infections, bone, joint, soft tissue, skin & wound infections, resp tract & GUT infections; abdominal infections, genital infections including gonorrhea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 g. Severe infections 4 g. Infant & childn 20-80 mg/kg. Neonate 20-50 mg/kg. To be given once daily. Gonorrhea 250 mg IM as a single dose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Previous hypersensitivity to penicillins. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
GI upsets; hematological changes, skin reactions, anaphylactoid reactions, phlebitis (IV administration).
