Concise Prescribing Info
Management of acute & chronic OA & RA, acute pain & low back pain. Primary dysmenorrhea. Relief of signs & symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
OA 200 mg as single dose. RA 200 mg bid. Acute pain & primary dysmenorrhea Initially 400 mg followed by an additional 200 mg on the 1st day; subsequently 200 mg bid or 400 mg once daily, as needed. Ankylosing spondylitis 200 mg as single dose up to a total daily dose of 400 mg. Low back pain 200 mg or 400 mg daily as single dose or 200 mg bid.
May be taken with or without food.
Hypersensitivity to sulfonamide or celecoxib. History of asthma, urticaria or allergic-type reaction after taking aspirin or NSAIDs. Treatment of peri-op in CABG surgery. Childn <18 yr.
Special Precautions
Coronary artery surgery in immediately post-op period. CV or cerebrovascular diseases. Erythema multiforme, flu-like symptoms, Stevens-Johnson syndrome. MI or CHF (NYHA II-IV); CHD or paresis, paralysis due to CVA. Patients w/ HTN, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, smoking. Increased risk of CV events. Hepatitis, jaundice, or liver failure. Closely monitor BP. Fluid retention & edema. Hepatic & renal disorders. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain, diarrhea, dyspepsia, constipation, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, stomatitis; headache, dizziness, insomnia; cough, bronchitis, rhinitis, sinusitis, upper resp tract infection; rash, pruritus; arthralgia, back pain; peripheral edema; fever.
Drug Interactions
Increased plasma conc w/ CYP2C9 inhibitors, fluconazole. Increased plasma levels of lithium. Increased risk of bleeding w/ warfarin. Reduced natriuretic effect of furosemide & thiazides. Reduced BP response to ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor antagonist.
