Dobutamine HCl
Indications/Uses
Short-term management of patients w/ cardiac decompensation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Increase cardiac output 2.5-10 mcg/kg/min IV, up to 40 mcg/kg/min if necessary (rare occasions). Dose adjustment depends on heart rate & rhythm, BP & diuresis.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis.
Special Precautions
Monitor ECG, BP, cardiac filling pressure & output continuously. Correct hypovolemia before administration. CHD, atrial fibrillation.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, headache, palpitation, dyspnea & chest pain.
Drug Interactions
Nitroprusside, β-blockers.
