Dosage/Direction for Use
Chronic constipation Initially 30 mL for 3 days. Maintenance: 15 mL/day. Hepatic encephalopathy 30-45 mL tid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Galactosemia requiring a low galactose diet.
Special Precautions
Diabetes; elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Intestinal cramps, flatulence; diarrhea. Less commonly, GI upsets, anorexia, increased thirst.
Drug Interactions
Decreased effect: Oral neomycin, laxatives, antacids.
