Indications/Uses
Management of neuropathic pain (associated w/ diabetic peripheral neuropathy, spinal cord injury & postherpetic neuralgia). Adjunctive therapy in partial seizures w/ or w/o secondary generalization; generalized anxiety disorder; fibromyalgia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Neuropathic pain Initially 150 mg/day in 2-3 divided doses. May be increased to 300 mg/day w/in 1 wk. Max: 600 mg/day. Partial-onset seizures (adjunctive therapy) Initially 150 mg/day in 2-3 divided doses. May be increased based on tolerability & effect. Max: 600 mg/day. Generalized anxiety disorder Initially 150 mg/day in 2-3 divided doses. May be adjusted wkly in increments of 150 mg. Max: 600 mg/day. Fibromylagia Initially 150 mg/day in 2-3 divided doses. May be increased to 300 mg/day w/in 1 wk. Max: 450 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
History of angioedema episodes & receiving drugs known to cause angioedema. Dizziness & somnolence. Visual disturbances (blurred vision, decreased acuity & visual field changes). Increases in CPK & rare cases of rhabdomyolysis. May cause wt gain & peripheral edema. Dose & duration or loss of glycemic control in diabetics. Renal impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Chest pain, edema, HTN, hypotension; abnormal gait, abnormality in thinking, amnesia, anxiety, anorgasmia, ataxia, confusion, vertigo, dizziness, insomnia; pruritus, endocrine & metabolic fluid retention, hypoglycemia, wt gain; abdominal distention, nausea, vomiting; back pain, arthralgia, leg cramps, limb pain; blurred vision, conjunctivitis, diplopia; otitis media, tinnitus; bronchitis, dyspnea.
Drug Interactions
Increase effects of alcohol, analgesics, antidiabetic agents, CNS depressants. Effects may be increased w/ ACE inhibitors. Decreased effects by mefloquine, mianserin, orlistat.
