17 β-estradiol
Estrogen deficiency & estrogen deficiency symptoms especially those related to menopause. Prevention of postmenopausal bone loss.
Dosage/Direction for Use
1 measure of the ruler/day (2.5 g) for 24-28 days/mth in combination w/ a progestogen for at least 12 days in each cycle. Apply morning & evening on clean skin over the abdomen, thighs, arms or lumbar region (except the breasts).
Venous thromboembolic disease, arterial thrombotic disease, undiagnosed vag bleeding, severe hepatic disease, breast or uterine cancer.
Special Precautions
Physical exam & complete family & medical history should be taken. Embolic cardiac disease (avoid use). Ischemic cerebral accident due to atherosclerosis, cerebral haemorrhage, retinal vein occlusion, obesity, confinement to bed/surgery, complicated diabetes, high BP, recurrent cholestasis or relapsing pruritus during pregnancy, renal failure, epilepsy, asthma, family history of breast cancer, liver disease or otospongiosis.
Adverse Reactions
Metrorrhagia, exacerbation of epilepsy, chloasma/melasma. Discontinue in case of CV or thromboembolic accident, cholestatic jaundice, benign mastopathy, uterine tumour, hepatic adenoma, galactorrhoea.
Drug Interactions
Anticonvulsants, barbiturates, griseofulvin, rifabutin, rifampicin.
