Indications/Uses

Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Chemotherapy- & radiotherapy-induced nausea & vomiting 8 mg 1-2 hr before treatment followed by 8 mg 12 hr later. Continue w/ 8 mg bid for up to 5 days. Prevention & treatment of post-op nausea & vomiting 16 mg as a single dose 1 hr before induction of anesth. Inj Chemotherapy- & radiotherapy-induced nausea & vomiting 8 mg slow IV inj immediately before chemotherapy, continue PO 8 mg bid for up to 5 days. Highly emetogenic chemotherapy 8 mg slow IV inj immediately before chemotherapy; or 8 mg slow IV inj immediately before chemotherapy followed by 2 doses of 8 mg IV 2-4 hr apart or by constant 1 mg/hr fusion for up to 24 hr. Prevention & treatment of post-op nausea & vomiting 4 mg slow IV inj over 30 sec given immediately 1 hr before induction of anesth.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Onsia does not stimulate peristalsis. Hypersensitivity to selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. Do not exceed 8 mg/day PO in patients w/ hepatic impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly. Childn ≤3 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, flushing or warm sensation, hiccups, constipation. Transient elevations in aminotransferases, rare immediate hypersensitivity reactions including anaphylaxis.
Drug Interactions
CYP450 enzyme inducers or inhibitors may change t½ of ondansetron. May be incompatible w/ acyclovir, aminophylline, amphotericin B, ampicillin, sulbactam, amsacrine, cefoperazone, furosemide, ganciclovir, lorazepam, methylprednisolone, mezclocillin, piperacillin & ≥16 mg/mL of 5-FU.
