Per mL Ipratropium Br 0.25 mg, fenoterol HBr 0.5 mg
Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of symptoms in chronic obstructive airway disorders w/ reversible bronchospasm eg, bronchial asthma & especially chronic bronchitis w/ or w/o emphysema.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & adolescent >12 yr Acute asthma Mild to moderate: 1 mL; severe: 2.5-4 mL. Intermittent & long-term treatment: 1-2 mL up to qid. Childn 6-12 yr Acute asthma Mild to moderate: 0.5-1 mL; severe: 3 mL. Intermittent & long-term treatment: 0.5-1 mL up to qid. Childn <6 yr (<22 kg body wt) ipratropium Br 25 mcg & fenoterol HBr 50 mcg/kg body wt/dose up to tid.
Contraindications
Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, tachyarrhythmia.
Special Precautions
Acute rapidly worsening dyspnea. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Tremor, nervousness, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, tachycardia, palpitation, cough, local irritation.
Drug Interactions
Bronchodilating effect enhanced by other β-adrenergics, anticholinergics & xanthine derivatives.
ATC Classification
R03AL01 - fenoterol and ipratropium bromide ; Belongs to the class of combination of adrenergics with anticholinergics, that may also include a corticosteroid. Used in the treatment of obstructive airway diseases.
