Indications/Uses
Prevention of gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Oral vaccination consisting of 2 doses: 1st dose may be administered from age of 6 wk. There should be an interval of at least 4 wk between doses. The vaccination course should be completed by the age of 24 wk.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. History of intussusception. Patients w/ uncorrected congenital malformation (eg, Meckel's diverticulum) of the GI tract that would predispose intussusception & severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) disorder.
Special Precautions
Do not inj. Postpone vaccination in acute severe febrile illness, diarrhea or vomiting. Immunocompromised individuals. Does not protect against gastroenteritis due to other pathogens than rotavirus strains. Not for use in adults. Infants w/ GI illnesses.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea, irritability; vomiting, loss of appetite, fever, irritability & cough/runny nose.
