Cefalexin monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Resp & urinary tract, skin, soft tissue, bone & joint infections due to susceptible organisms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-4 g daily in 2-4 divided doses. Infant & childn 25-100 mg/kg/day in divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Penicillin-sensitive patients. Impaired renal function.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances. Allergic reactions, eosinophilia, angioedema, anaphylaxis, neutropenia, superinfections, pseudomembranous colitis.
Drug Interactions
Bacteriostatic antibiotics may reduce cephalosporin effectiveness. Probenecid may increase & prolong cephalosporin plasma levels & toxicity.
