Cimetidine
Indications/Uses
Duodenal & benign GI ulceration, recurrent ulceration, reflux oesophagitis & other conditions where reduction of gastric acid secretion is likely to be beneficial.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Duodenal ulcer 800 mg single dose at bedtime or 400 mg bid for 4-6 wk. Benign gastric ulcer 800 mg at bedtime for 8 wk. Reflux esophagitis 800 mg-1.6 g/day depending on severity for up to 12 wk. Amp 200-300 mg IV or IM 4-8 hrly. Max: 2.4 g daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Special Precautions
GI malignancy; renal impairment; pregnancy, lactation; administer slowly IV in CV impairment.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea; dizziness, tiredness; rashes. Infrequently, gynecomastia; reversible confusional states; impotence (men). Rarely, allergic reactions, arthralgia, myalgia; blood disorders; interstitial nephritis; headache; hepatotoxicity; pancreatitis.
Drug Interactions
Increases blood conc of lignocaine, phenytoin, theophylline, warfarin, some antiarrhythmics, benzodiazepines, β-blockers, vasodilators.

A02BA01 - cimetidine ; Belongs to the class of H2-receptor antagonists. Used in the treatment of peptic ulcer and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
