Indications/Uses
Inflammatory condition of joints, bursae & tendon sheaths; allergic diseases, dermatoses & RA.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 8-32 mg/day. Childn 4-12 mg daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Systemic fungal infection; unstable or infected joint; lactation.
Special Precautions
HTN, CHF; diabetes, chronic renal failure, uremia; active or latent TB; osteoporosis; live virus immunisation; stress; intercurrent infection.
Adverse Reactions
Fluid & salt retention; Cushingoid state; peptic ulcer; amenorrhea, hyperhidrosis; mental disturbance; aseptic osteonecrosis; muscle weakness; raised IOP, cataract; local atrophy; growth retardation; allergic rash, anaphylaxis.
Drug Interactions
Efficacy may be reduced by phenytoin, phenobarb, rifampicin. Corticosteroids may reduce the effects of diuretics, hypoglycemics, anticholinesterases in myasthenia gravis, salicylates.
