Cefixime
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp tract infection, otitis media, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, acute exacerbation in COPD, UTI, pyelonephritis, cystitis, gonococcal urethritis, & typhoid caused by susceptible organism.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Individualised dosage. Adult & childn ≥30 kg 100 mg bid; may be increased up to 200 mg (200-400 mg/day) for more severe cases.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Best taken w/ meals to minimise GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillin. History of allergy, renal dysfunction, poor oral nutrition, patients receiving parenteral nutrition, elderly. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reaction, shock, haematological disorder, GI disorder, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, diarrhea, vit K deficiency.
Drug Interactions
Warfarin, carbamazepine, nifedipine.
