Methimazole
Indications/Uses
Hyperthyroidism.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Initial dosage: 15-60 mg daily. Maintenance: 5-15 mg daily. Childn Initial dosage: 0.4 mg/kg daily. Maintenance: ½ of initial dose.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Lactation.
Special Precautions
Pregnancy. Close surveillance to check for development of agranulocytosis.
Adverse Reactions
Inhibition of myelopoiesis (agranulocytosis, granulocytopenia & thrombocytopenia), aplastic anemia, drug fever, lupus-like syndrome, hepatitis, periarteritis & hypoprothrombinemia.
Drug Interactions
Potentiates anticoagulants.
