Indications/Uses
Tab Herpes simplex & herpes zoster viral infection of the skin & mucous membranes including initial & recurrent herpes genitalis & herpes labialis. Inj Herpes simplex & Varicella zoster infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Tab Herpes simplex 200 mg 5 times daily approx 4 hrly omitting the night dose. Herpes zoster 800 mg 5 times daily approx 4 hrly omitting the night dose for 7 days. Inj Herpes simplex & varicella zoster: Immunocompetent Adult 5 mg/kg. Childn 250 mg/m2 for 5 days. Immunocompromised Adult 10 mg/kg. Childn 250-500 mg/m2. To be given 8 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Special Precautions
Renal impairment. Dehydration (inj).
Adverse Reactions
Skin rash, GI effects, headache, lightheadedness, neurological reaction, phlebitis.
Drug Interactions
Nephrotoxic drugs. Probenecid, theophylline, zidovudine.
